WEEK 3 | AHAB & JEZEBEL

1 Kings 16-22

WHO IS AHAB?

7th King of ISRAEL (Son of Omri)

Powerful Military Leader

Savvy Economic Leader

Crafty Political Leader

Husband of JEZEBEL

Most WICKED King in Israel’s History (1 Kings 21:25-26)

WHAT WERE AHAB’S MISTAKES?

Ahab’s main mistakes were those of GREED & IDOLATRY.

WHY IS AHAB A VILLAIN?

DEFIES God—1 Kings 16

DEFLECTS Responsibility—1 Kings 18

Doesn’t LISTEN—when God did well for him (1 Kings 20); allowing Ben-Hadad to live (1 Kings 20); to Elijah (1 Kings 18); to Micaiah (1 Kings 22)

DENIES the Law—(1 Kings 21)

WHAT CAN WE LEARN?

Idolatry (of any kind) leads to DESTRUCTION (1 Kings 21:20-26)

God seeks the REDEMPTION of everyone (1 Kings 20:13, 28)

God accepts the HUMILITY of the most wicked (when judged by Elijah—1 Kings 21:27-29)

The eyes of God are UPON YOU (Killed in battle when disguised—1 Kings 22)

THIS WEEK:

1.       In all that you do, seek to HONOR GOD above all else.  Put nothing in your life ahead of God—finances, position, comfort—nothing.  This is most difficult within the “small” or “insignificant things” of life…so be aware and be careful.

2.       Watch for God’s seeking of REDEMPTION.  Look at every individual you see—no matter how wicked their lifestyle—as one that God seeks to rescue from sin and death.

3.       Live for an AUDIENCE OF ONE.  Remember that God sees all you do—the good, the bad, the ugly—and God sees the condition of your heart too.
