•          Forgive and comfort him...so that no advantage would be taken of us by Satan, for we are not ignorant of his schemes

The Names & Titles of Lucifer

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Lucifer: Isa 14:12

•          He is Brilliant and Beautiful

•          He will seduce you to ignore your salvation through the beautiful or appealing to the eyes

•          God is not necessarily in the beautiful, appealing, glamorous…  1 Sam 16:7; 1 Cor 1:26-28

•          He will entice through bizarre - brilliant logic, secret knowledge, explanations for immoral conclusions

Resisting Lucifer

•          Limit your exposure to deceptive enticing beauty

•          Examine the substance not just the appearance. 1 Thess 5:21,22; Give time/distance Gen 3:6

•          If the conclusion is immoral the argument is flawed

•          Start doing more good Psa 37:3; 2 Pet 1:5

•          Refuse the “make it look good” game. Matt 23:1-28; 1 Pet 3:3

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Devil: 1 Pet 5:8

•          He accuses Christians to God 1 John 2:1,2

•          He whispers accusations to the Christian

•          He get Christians fighting each other

•          He has people accuse us; spread rumors

•          He seeks to depress, discourage, distract or enrage you… so that Christ is not glorified

Resisting the Devil

•          Memorize Scriptures about our security in Christ. Rom 8:1; 31-39; John 10:27-29; Jude 24

•          Do not attack back when you are being attacked or corrected.      1 Pet 2:21-25

•          Bless those who curse you, Do good to those who hate you, Pray for those who persecute you, Love your enemies Luke 6:27,28

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Satan: Job 1

•          He particularly sets himself up as the  opponent or adversary of Christians

•          He will come against you to keep you from progressing in your faith

•          He comes against us with 4,000+ years of experience in opposing the advance of the kingdom of God

Resisting Satan

•          Take a hard look at what needs to be added or subtracted to make progress as a Christian? 2 Pet 1:5-8; Phil 2:12-14; 1 Cor 9:24-27

•          Eliminate anything that blocks Christian progress

•          Prepare to have your progress and service opposed by people, activities, temptations, work, organizations, illness, good things… Matt 16:23

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Tempter: Matt 4:3

•          He entices you to be selfish & pleasure seeking

•          He finds sins you are naturally drawn to and then sets up those exact sinful conditions.

•          He wants you to over indulge in good things

Resisting the Tempter

•          Admit to yourself, trusted mentors and friends the sins that entice you easiest.

•          7 Deadly Sins; 10 Commandments:

•          Build walls, obstacles, consequences to make it harder to sin in those areas. Matt 5:29,30

•          Listen hard for the promptings of the Holy Spirit Gal 5:16; Eph 4:30-32

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Murderer: John 8:44

•          He is the one who incites people to hate so much that they contemplate, plan and murder in some way

•          He has you dwell on the hurt, the hate and your bitterness until you could / do wipe a person out of your existence

•          He helps you get your way through anger, rage, violence and fear

•          He would eventually like to incite you to murder yourself

Resist the Devil when he comes as...

Roaring Lion: 1 Pet 5:8

•          He seeks to scare, intimidate and bring fear

•          He wants you to give up… stand still… stop fighting and be devoured.

•          He seeks to get you running away from him instead of being led by the Holy Spirit

•          He wants you consumed with him

Resisting the Roaring Lion

•          Cry out to God for His leading and power. Psalms

•          Keep fighting; try again; another way; don’t give up   1 Tim 1:18; 2 Tim 4:7

•          Face and Fix your fear 1 John 4:18

•          Call someone to face it with you  Heb 12:12,13

•          Look beyond the fear to the reward and to Christ Heb 12:1,2

Belial: 2 Cor 6:15

•          He is the worthless one

•          He wants you to spend all your time and get tremendously excited about worthless things.

•          He wants you to feel worthless / unusable

•          He wants to yoke, marry, partner, the good with the worthless or evil to dilute or hide the evil.

Resisting Belial

•          Meditate on your value & position in Christ

•          Jn 3:16; Rom 8:1; 33-38; 2 Cor 5:17; Eph 1:18-22

•          Limit your exposure to people, material or activities that make you feel worthless 2 Cor 6:17

•          Increase your time with people and material that build you up in Christ. Heb 10:22-25; Phil 4:7-9

•          Plan specific ways to resist him through Christ’s power and wisdom
