Sour Spirit

1 Kings 19:1-18


 


July 20              The Monsters Within:                                      

Wolfman:  Sour Spirit…1 Kings 19:1-18

1.         Introduction:  Father and Son

2.         A sour spirit changes you into an unlovable creature

--A sour spirit makes us loners

--A sour spirit depresses

--A sour spirit gives a false assessment of circumstances

                        3.         A sour spirit passes on its curse to others

                                    -Your attitude is contagious

                                    --Your attitudes can wound

                                    --Your attitudes can change people’s lives

                        4.         A sour spirit is killed by one who loves you

                                    --He speaks often in a small, still voice

                                    --He speaks in the silence of a cross

                                    --He overcomes your spirit through His resurrection

                        5.         The silver bullet that changes a sour spirit

                                    --Put facts before feelings

                                    --Put the right images before your mind  - Philippians 4:8

                                    --Make the joy of the Lord your strength –Nehemiah 8:10

                        6.         This week:

--Have the courage to ask someone who will be honest with you about your spirit.  Ask them how they perceive you and be ready to listen and accept what they say in order that you might be honest before Christ.

--Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to show you your spirit and change you.

                                    --Pick three people and do something to encourage them this week.


Bible Study:  Philippians 4:4-9

 Hook:

 1.         What is a time in your life when you rejoiced?

 2.         What is something that caused you to worry at one time?

 Book:

 3.         What are you to always do as a Christian?

 4.         What should be evident in your life?

 5.         Rather than being anxious, how should you do?

                                        6.         What are the results of giving everything to God in prayer?

                                        7.         Where should the focus of your mind be?

                                        8.         What does Paul expect to do with sound teaching?

                                        Look:

                                        9.         What does it mean to rejoice always?

                                       10.        What does it look like to be known for being gentle?

   11.        What should a Christian’ prayer life look like?  What elements does Paul say to include?

   12.        How do you bring to mind the things Paul tells you to think upon?

   Took:

   13.        How do you make sure you put good teaching in practice?  What plan should you make?

   14.        What could you do this week to improve your prayer life?

   15.        What worries do you need to give to Christ?

   16.        Pray for a spirit of rejoicing in Jesus Christ and a true daily walk with the God of peace.
